Hello everyone,
A big shout out this month to the Samford Show Society and all the volunteers, workers, exhibitors and sponsors for putting on this fabulous annual community event. Also, many thanks to all those people who visited the Samford Progress and Village Pump stand to say hello and take part in our own “Future Making, not Future Waiting” survey. Congratulations to prize-winner Susan D. who completed the survey and went into the weekend draw for a Money Tree prize ($100 worth of scratchies). We will continue gathering community feedback to help us build a picture for our future.
Samford Progress updates
Many thanks to Ali France MP (our Federal Member for Dickson) for attending our July members’ meeting. Ali touched on a range of topics as well as answering members’ questions.
Fire Ants
The national Fire Ant Eradication Program team recently briefed members. Periodic retreatments are underway, with a small number of fire ant nests recently detected locally.
Main and Junction Streets DA
Residents, members and supporters recently gathered at the Samford Community Hub to reflect and celebrate the successful objection to this development.
Hollywood visits Samford
A film crew recently set up a temporary base unit for their semi-trailers, vehicles, equipment, actors, support crew, staff etc near the Samford Community Hub while they undertook filming at some local venues.
Ellie Smith (Div 11 Councillor)
The Council will provide temporary public toilets (including a toilet for people with disabilities) for the Village Green project, until a more permanent solution can be provided sometime in the future. The temporary toilets should be ready in time for the formal opening of the Village Green in late August.
Samford Area Aircraft Action Group
Major disappointment and disbelief at the release of Air Services Australia’s proposed very limited actions to address air traffic noise and pollutant impacts in our region – with Cedar Creek and Samford directly below an ever-growing 24/7 major flight corridor.

Did you Know?
Samford Progress is a self-funded, volunteer‑based, not-for-profit community association. The only government funding it receives is the occasional small funding grant to assist with a specific activity (assuming its grant request is successful, which unfortunately is not always the case!). Put simply, the association totally relies on its members, the community and income from The Village Pump and SCHUB bookings.
Gentle reminder
When driving please watch your speed for everyone’s safety, including that of our wildlife. The growing number of senseless animal strikes on our main roads and local streets is a reflection of how poorly some people are choosing to drive. We live in a semi-rural area; there will be wildlife on our roads both day and night. Please drive to the conditions and expect the unexpected.
