I am so pleased that this month will see the start of a $1.2 million facelift for Main Street Samford which will provide improved disability access, better amenities for local residents and great new streetscaping.
While it is good to be able to keep some destinations hidden away, Samford has become a popular place, not only to live but to visit for the day and it is time for some beautification works that will help cater for this. To help minimise disruptions to residents and businesses, the project will be carried out over six stages and is expected to take approximately 24 weeks to complete. Works will include the renewal and widening of existing footpaths, new landscaping with additional street trees, modern street furniture, bigger bins and four new alfresco areas.
There has been a long period of consultation for the project to enable locals, businesses and community groups to have a say on how the finished streetscape will come together. Through this feedback, a lot of consideration has been given to ensure that wherever possible, works that may cause disruption to businesses and the community will be undertaken out of business hours, and this is another reason for the project to be completed in six stages between now and January 2023.
Works start at the northern end of town near Samford Creek, and there will of course be some changes during the works, but VMS boards will be in place as well as clearly marked detours for pedestrian access.
Please take notice of changing conditions as you move through Samford, have a bit of patience and take direction from onsite workers so everyone is kept safe. You can keep up to date on the progress of this transformation by going to Council’s website www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au and search Samford Streetscape. If you experience any issues with works, you can contact the project officer by calling (07) 3205 0555, call my office on 3480 6455 or email Darren.grimwade@moretonbay.qld.gov.au.
The approximate construction start timing is as follows:
Stage 1 – August 2022.
Stage 2 – September 2022.
Stage 3 – October 2022.
Stage 4 – November 2022.
Stage 5 – December 2022.
Stage 6 – January 2023.
